Theresa White Dunstan went home to be with the Lord on June 23, 2023 surrounded by her family. Theresa was born on June 13, 1956 to Ira “Spike” White and Dolores Reid White of Virginia Beach, Va. Theresa happily raised her family with her husband, Mike, on her hometown street where her sister, Missy, and her parents resided. Having her extended family surrounding her allowed her to raise her four girls in a true “family compound”. We have great faith knowing her husband of over 40 years and love of her life, Mike, was eagerly waiting for her as she reached the gates of heaven to dance once again. She has taught us how to love and support each other as a family, and to remember the importance of how family always comes first. Our hearts will always be filled with the love she had for all of us.
Theresa was a graduate of Bayside High School and attended Old Dominion University where she was a member of the “Alpha Phi ” sorority. Theresa loved working at Met Park at her parents’ restaurant, “The Diamond Club”. She met so many wonderful friends who either worked for her dad, or the patrons who would dine there often. Later, she became a preschool teacher at Bayside Presbyterian where she taught for over 27 years. All of her students and their families had a special place in her heart.
She is predeceased by her husband Michael Wayne Dunstan and her parents Ira “Spike” and Dolores White. She is survived by her daughters Nichole Parsons (John), Jessica Castellanos (Leo), Mary Kathleen Polke (Shawn), and Michelle Dunstan. She is also left behind by her sister, Melissa Ludwick (Earl) and nephew William Ludwick. She also had two cousins Robin and Mary Belle White.
Theresa supported her girls in everything they did with Mike often in the coaching seat. Theresa was always running one girl here and one girl there while toting the other two in the car for the ride. Sometimes she would be lucky enough to have two girls on one team. No matter what sport they wanted to play or participate in, she would always fully support it. It might have been softball, volleyball, swimming, tennis, basketball, field hockey, soccer, or even track. Her girls filled her life. She never put herself before her girls. She considered them gifts from God, precious in every way. Among all the sports, she managed to find time to participate in their PTA and be a part of the board to stay present in their education, as well.
Theresa’s three grandchildren, Charles, Jackson, and Grace have continued to give her blessings. Being their preschool teacher was considered a right of passage for each one of them. As their Mimi, she made every effort to attend school and sporting events making sure she was their number one supporter on the sidelines. Even when she was at her weakest, she could be seen being pushed in a wheelchair across the field to cheer them on to victory. A tradition handed down by her parents, Theresa and her sister knew the importance of Sunday night dinners. This was her favorite night of the week. This was a time when the entire family came together to share stories from the week and plan upcoming events. This would also include early arrivals for hanging out and playing games together, which sometimes included a ball game in the front yard.
The family would like to thank their numerous friends who have been by their side to support them. Phone calls, dinners, and visits have all been greatly appreciated. This long journey was made more bearable by all of you.
A memorial service will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Bayside Presbyterian Church on Ewell Road in Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Heart Association in honor of Theresa.
