Thomas Edward Shipman, 67, of Hampton Virginia, passed away on May 11, 2021.
Tom Shipman was a delightful and mischievous soul. Whether it was a joke, pet name or obscure movie quote, he would always bring levity in any situation. Tom will be sorely missed by those that knew him. He was an active member of the Rew Volunteer Fire department for over a decade, where he held roles including Chief and Assistant Chief. As a native of Bradford, PA, Tom worked for Pennzoil Station, Bradco, Bradford Meat and Bisset’s. After moving to Virginia, Tom worked for Hydracrete pumping, Herr’s and UTZ. He was a drummer who could be found playing in local bands as well as Church Ensembles. Tom loved the Pittsburgh Steelers, NASCAR and Dirt-track racing. Tom belonged to the Fraternal order of Odd Fellows, Tri-County Fireman’s association, DeMolay International and was a member of Parkview Baptist and Northside Christian Church.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Marian Shipman; brothers, Timothy Breese, James Shipman and Donald Shipman; and his sister, Joyce Kline.
Tom is survived by his loving spouse Mary Louise Shipman “Bo-Bo”; children, Jennifer Jordan, Robert and Angela Shipman and Stacey and Carl Nelson. He also is survived by stepchildren, Tracy and Kevin Jenkins, Milton and Melanie Stanius, and Denise and Jeff Hurd.
He has nineteen grandchildren: nine paternal that reside in PA and ten step grandchildren that reside in Virginia, as well as, five great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Parkview Baptist Church 604 Hilton Blvd, Newport News, on June 5, 2021. Family visitation at 1 pm and services to begin at 2pm.
