Thomas Henry Gogarty, born June 20th 1952, in New York City, left this earth and his loved ones Friday evening November 26, 2010. Tom relocated and settled in Virginia Beach in 1976, where he met and married Vonnie, his wife of 30 years. He was a successful entrepreneur founding a home improvement construction company. An accomplished and popular musician, Tom performed in local venues throughout the Tidewater area over the last 30 years. As a proud and devoted member of the Knights of Columbus, Tom served as trustee, faithful navigator and twice as Grand Knight. A loving husband and father, Tom is survived by his wife Vonnie, son Jesse, daughter Kelly, sister Triona and brother Ken. A memorial mass is scheduled for Tuesday 4 P.M. at St. Gregory the Great. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Knights of Columbus Council #9056. Tom, we hardly knew ye. Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family. This comes as a shock to me. I am very sorry for your loss. I saw Tom when he was performing with Midnight Fury out at Southfork all of those many-many years ago. I don't mean to sound selfish, but the music that Tom made with Midnight Fury were some of the happiest moments of my life. I was wondering if he was still playing and was hoping to catch him at some other venue. I never realized he had passed away. I will always remember Tom fondly with the other members of Midnight Fury and the great music they used to play. You are gone but never forgotten my friend. - David Scott - Friday, 15 March 2024.

To the Gogarty family, My heartfelt condolences are sent to you and yours. I met Bobby and his Snard Brothers early in his career. I bartended on 36th St at the Sheraton Beach Inn when he played there for a week or three. His gig there preceded his long-standing stay at Ocean Eddie's. He was a mainstay of good tidings with a cheerful spirit that infused the many gathered in any room he played. You wrote a moving, beautiful tribute to him. Re-read your own words from time to time to help in your own healing, something I hope has already started. Peace and God bless.

I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family. May the wonderful memories of Tom bring the family comfort at this most difficult time.

I was fortunate to play football with Tom at Cardinal Hayes H.S for four years. Just recently I joined Facebook and the first person I thought of reaching out to was Tom. Suprisingly, I was able to find him after almost 40 years. He made a strong impression upon me so long ago as a team mate and I have never forgotten him. He was a great football player, student and high school friend. I am sure he was equally as great as husband, father and all the rest. I am very sorry we did not get to talk to each other earlier.

Vonnie, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. My heart goes out to you, Jesse, and Kelly. I have not seen you or Tom in many years, but hold dear many fond memories of times spent with all of you. Tom was a generous, kind, and talented man, and I know he will be dearly missed by many. I will always remember Tom playing his guitar and leading us all in our impromptu blues songs we would conjure up in your kitchen. I would suspect he is in heaven doing the same. I remember him placing Kelly in her baby chair in front of the tv so he could share with her the Mets World Series win back in '86. He always had a kind word for everyone. Dear Vonnie, I am so sorry. Tom was a wonderful man, talented contractor and business man...just a great human being. I only have good memories of Tom. He will be missed. Michael and I attended his memorial mass and reception. We tried to speak with you, but you were surrounded by family and friends. You are so loved! Please call any time for any reason. It was always a joy to see Tom! His infectious positive attitude was always welcome. Tom set in with the Snard Brother's Band often and Tom was a good player and always welcome on my stage. My prayers are with Vonnie and the family.

He was a good counsel to Dennis in the Knights and helped him keep his head on straight. Vonnie, Ronn and I are now in Bellevue, WA visiting our daughter and family. I just checked our emails and was devestated to hear of Tom's passing. Ronn and I are so very sorry we will not be able to be with you at the church service but please know that our prayers and thoughts will be with you. I met Tom at our networking meetings, always a professional, now this sad news. Tom will be missed. My condolences go out to his family.

We were saddened to hear of Tom's passing. We knew Tom as the person who renovated our home. He became a friend in the time we spent together; such a good and honest man - rare in these times and so very much appreciated. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family.

It was truly an honor to share the stage with Tom for several years in the Heather Edwards Band. Not only was he a great musician, but a great person as well! I will never forget the music and good times we made. My heart and prayers go out to Vonnie & family.

Tom we're going to miss you! As a friend, brother knight and fellow parishioner - you are second to none! You are a warm hearted, unselfish, energenic leader who is there with your family Vonnie, Jesse & Kelly from the start until the finish. You assisted us year after year with Catholic Physical Fitness Day CPF Day and the Annual Daddy Daughter Valentine Dinner Dance. The two events serviced Catholics throughout Hampton Roads and brought many service organizations together as one. These events became so popular that they produced a large amount of money that supported St Gregory's athletic programs and introduced new parishioners to St Gregory the Great Church and School, allowing them to grow very large over a long period of time. Tom, for nearly two decades your warm heart and your commitment to the children in the parish and throughout the Hampton Roads' Catholic Community helped make both events great successes. We will not forget you nor your service! Thank you Tom!

We are so sorry to hear about Tom's passing. He was always a good friend and such an outstanding musician. It was truly a joy to play with him in both Switchback Station and the Wingnuts. You are in our prayers. He truly will be missed not just by us but by everyone who knew him.
