Timoleon “Tim” Rodriguez passed away peacefully at home on March 5, 2022, aged 93.
Born on April 19, 1928, in Norristown, PA, to Rhoda Hendricks Rodriguez and Abraham Rodriguez, he graduated from Haverford High School in 1946 before enlisting in the U.S. Navy.
After the Navy, he attended Pennsylvania State University from 1948 to 1952 and received a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. In June 1964, he married Jayne McCauley, whom he met on a date set up by their mutual best friends on Good Friday, March 31, 1961. They were married for 57 years until Jayne’s death in August 2021.
He spent 40-plus years working as a latex chemist for Firestone Tire and Rubber Co. and C.R. Bard in Akron, OH; Fall River, MA; Providence, RI; and Moncks Corner, S.C.
Tim was devoted to his family and his Christian faith. A lifelong member of the Episcopal Church, he served on the vestries of Christ Church in Swansea, MA, and St. Paul’s Anglican in Summerville, SC. He also volunteered in numerous church ministries assisting seniors, incarcerated, and the homeless. His biggest volunteer commitment was to the Timrod Library in Summerville, where he was president for many years.
His other interests included golf, sailing, American history, writing, and home restoration. He will be warmly remembered by family and friends as a good-natured man with a quiet wit and enormous inner strength and conviction.
Tim is survived by daughters, Nina Rodriguez (Erol Aydar) and Kate Rodriguez (Christian Hummel); grandchildren: Cole, Eliza, Samuel, Ethan, and Oliver; nephews, David Rodriguez and Douglas Rodriguez, and their families; nieces, Sally Turner and Penelope Leuchtag; and nephew Richard Turner.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the wonderful and skilled caregivers at Atlantic Shores Retirement Community and ProMedica Heartland Hospice.
Memorial donations may be made to Old Donation Episcopal Church in Virginia Beach, VA. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
