Troy Alan Eisenberger, 46, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2024, in Virginia Beach, Virginia surrounded by his loving family. Troy was born December 2, 1977, to Donald Eisenberger and Catherine (Sandrock) Shoenfelt in York, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Northeastern High School in Manchester, Pennsylvania, and Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Virginia.
Troy met the love of his life and best friend, Andrea (Woods) Eisenberger, while attending church in Norfolk, Virginia. After instantly bonding over the TV show Survivor, Troy and Andrea were married on March 29, 2003, and spent the next 21 years racking up roller coaster credits, attending concerts, and building a beautiful life together. The highlight of their lives was traveling to Pereira, Colombia to meet and adopt their three sons Carlos Samuel, Daniel, and Luis Angel on July 9, 2008. Troy’s greatest pride was his family, including his beloved rescue lab Mabel. In his spare time, he enjoyed walking for miles on end, listening to podcasts and music on vinyl, watching as many Oscar-nominated movies as possible, playing complicated board games, and creating ranked lists of just about everything under the sun.
Troy was a devoted public servant, having spent most of his career working in government as an engineering project manager, and for the past 5 years, as the City Traffic Engineer for Chesapeake, Virginia. In this role, he secured over $75 million in transportation improvement funding for the city through various state and federal grants, a feat of which he was extremely proud. He also held regional leadership positions throughout his career including, Chair of the Hampton Roads Transportation (HRT) Technical Advisory Committee, Chair of the HRT Management and Financial Advisory Committee, and the American Public Works Association Board of Directors for Virginia. In 2023, he received a City Manager’s award for his leadership following the temporary closure of the Route 168 Bypass Bridge.
Troy was preceded in death by his grandparents Rev. Alfred and Helen (Dickel) Sandrock and Shirley (Spiese) Krankewicz all of York, Pennsylvania. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Andrea and three sons Carlos, Daniel, and Luis of Virginia Beach; mother Catherine Shoenfelt (Carter) of York Haven, Pennsylvania; father Donald Eisenberger (Sue) of Ephrata, Pennsylvania; sister Rebecca (Ed) and niece Savannah Slavinsky of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; mother-in-law Earlene Peregory (Randy) of Virginia Beach; father-in-law Michael Woods (Bonnie) of Morgantown, West Virginia; sister-in-law Amanda Nieves (Rico) of Virginia Beach; niece and nephew Liana and Ethan Nieves of Virginia Beach–who affectionately refer to him as Chowy; step-brother-in-law Merritt Peregory of Richmond, Virginia; and a multitude of family and friends far and wide who loved him.
