Vanda Bartina Paternite, born on April 10, 1962, in the fog-kissed city of San Francisco, CA, has finally cashed in her chips and made her way to the great casino in the sky on June 6, 2025, at the age of 63. Her departure took place in Virginia Beach, VA, much to the chagrin of her devoted family and her beloved Dr. Pepper.
Vanda began her professional life as a secretary at the Transportation Department of Doughty Foods, where she likely kept everyone in line with her sharp sense of humor and quick wit. However, she soon shifted gears to focus on her most cherished role—being the heart of her family. Her dedication to her loved ones was unwavering, and she managed to do it all while maintaining an impressive streak at her local bingo hall.
A true aficionado of the gambling world, Vanda loved nothing more than seeing the dazzling lights and hearing the clatter of coins in various casinos. Her trips to Las Vegas were legendary, filled with stories that will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. Her infectious spirit and love for life seemed to be fueled by her daily oatmeal and ever-present can of Dr. Pepper—the breakfast of champions.
A devout member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, she brought her vibrant energy and kindhearted nature to those around her, leaving an indelible mark on the community.
Vanda is preceded in death by her parents, Vancel and Yasu Bauman, whom we suspect greeted her with open arms (and possibly a deck of cards) on the other side. She leaves behind her loving husband, Anthony Thomas Paternite, Sr., who is undoubtedly lost without his partner in crime. Her sons, Anthony Paternite, Jr. (Rachel) and Paul Michael Paternite; niece, Jennifer Paternite, carry on her legacy of humor and heart. Vanda’s grandchildren, Giovanni, Kylie, Sophia, and Anthony III, will miss their grandmother’s laughter and her uncanny ability to win at bingo.
A service to celebrate Vanda’s remarkable life will be held at 11am, Monday, June 23, 2025 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church, where her spirit will surely linger, mischievously whispering numbers to the bingo players in the crowd.
In the words of those who knew her best, Vanda lived a life full of love, laughter, and a little bit of luck. May she rest in peace, knowing she left the slot machine of life having hit the jackpot of love and family. Please offer your fondest condolences to the family during this difficult time in their lives.
To my beautiful wife, Vanda. SHMILY (See How Much I Love You)
