Vera K. Maloney, 99, of Susan, Va, born in  London, England on June 21 1920 passed away on Monday February 17 2020, surrounded by family.
She is survived by her daughter, Maureen (Don) Connolly and Dawn (Bob) Dalton; grandchildren Allison, Ella, Alex, Stephen and Meredith, nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She is also survived by Stella Miller (sister-in-law) of Leigh-on-Sea England, and many other loving relatives.
She and her husband (Cyril) were married in August 1940 and together they endured the trials of WWII and then were able to celebrate 74 years of marriage before Cyril passed away in August 2014. She was always a career minded woman and after working in retail for many years, due to her love of fashion and style, she opened her own successful dress boutique in London, called Vera Kaye. She was always “in fashion” and never went without her makeup, nail polish and her hair styled, which she continued well into her 90’s.
When Vera and Cyril retired, in 1985, they moved to the USA, where both their daughters and family were living.
They moved to Florida and stayed there for several years – she loved the warm weather! Then due to family relocations, they moved to Northern Virginia and then came to Mathews in 2007, where they enjoyed the small town lifestyle and were often seen walking hand in hand in Mathews while out and about. After the passing of her husband, she moved to New Mexico to live with her daughter Dawn(Bob), enjoying her new surroundings, socializing at the  Woman’s Club, loved the warm weather and “True to Fashion” at 95 years of age, began modeling for a local Women’s store. As her health started to decline Vera, along with her daughter and son-in-law, moved back to Virginia to be closer to family.
There will be a Celebration of her Life on March  22 2020 at the Mathews Yacht Club – from  3:00 pm to 6:00 pm where she will be remembered by family and friends, and Pastor Thomas Bunting will give the Benediction. At this time we would also like to thank the staff of the Riverside Convalescent Home in Mathews for the loving care they gave her during the last months of her life and for all the cups of tea they had to prepare for her! Vera was well loved and will be truly missed by all of her family and friends, but now, as one of her great grandchildren wrote, “knowing Nanny, when she saw Grandad again, she made appointments for her hair and nails and then they went waltzing into the clouds!”
