Vera Mae Davenport, 89 of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2013 at the Sentara Hospice House.
Vera was born in Bidwell, Ohio on December 13, 1923. She graduated from Bidwell-Porter High School, Class of 1941, and continued to Business School.
Vera is survived by her sister, Marie Heath of Ohio; daughter, Pamela Moore Michael of Fort Myers Beach, FL; sons, Ronald Davenport Beverly and Donald Davenport Rosie of Chesapeake, VA; grandchildren, Dustin Davenport of Iowa, Joshua and Rhea Davenport of Chesapeake, VA; Matthew Davenport of Chesapeake, VA; Great grandchildren, Autumn and Evan Davenport of Iowa.
Vera is preceded in death by her parents Mayme and Victor Queen of Ohio; her husband, Julian E. Davenport of Virginia Beach; her daughter, Dannielle Rose Davenport; her brothers, Paul Queen, Dwight Queen, Luther Queen, and Thomas Queen of Ohio.
Vera was retired from the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers on April 1, 1989. Vera served in the U. S. Naval Service from December 1943 to June 1947, with an honorable discharge as Yeoman First Class and was honored with the Victory Medal World War II. She was a Charter Member of Women In Military Service For America Memorial Foundation.
After her retirement, Vera loved craft painting, scrapbooking and reading. She has left her children with many loving family memories and history through those scrapbooks. She enjoyed bird watching and the company of her beloved cockatiel, ChiChi.
The family expresses many thanks to Sentara Hospice House nurses for the excellent care provided to their mother.
A private family memorial will be held. Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the cremation. Condolences to the family may be left on Vera’s online memorial website at www.cremate.org.
