Vera Sue Schulte (Groome), 78, passed from this world on to a life of eternal peace and joy on October 19, 2023. Mrs. Schulte joins her parents, Vivian and Carl Groome of Marysville, Ohio, and brother, John Groome of Ohio in the Kingdom of Heaven.
She is deeply loved by her husband of fifty-seven years , Paul Schulte, her four children, and their spouses – Tamara Schulte, Wendy (Jeff) Dzvonik, Paula Schulte, and Bill (Kelly) Schulte, and by her eight grandchildren – Jessica Schiller, Katherine Voelkers, Jacob Morris, Ashley Dzvonik, Duncan Schulte, Evelyn Swanson, Elanor Swanson, and Megan Schulte and by her sister, Sharon Streng.
Mrs. Schulte left Ohio as a young woman to join the US Navy as a WAC and in doing so met her future husband, Paul, also in the Navy, at a USO dance in Lancaster, PA. They soon married and went on to live all over the United States during his military service, raising four children and numerous foster children while settling and resettling as Paul’s orders changed – from New York to Idaho to Virginia and back again. Sue could always make a home, wherever their family landed.
Mrs. Schulte always believed in volunteering any time she had available – in her children’s schools and sports, as an Ombudsman with the military, in local hospitals, and in Girl Scouts. She loved baking, cooking, sewing, and gardening – canning hundreds of jars of vegetables from her own garden. And she created a lovely home for her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. In retirement, she and Paul found adventure through the Good Sam RV Club of Tidewater Virginia and enjoyed many trips in the RV that they worked together to make into a home away from home.
She will be missed with an ache that will never go away, but her memory will live on through our words and deeds.
Expressions of sympathy and love for her and her family can be made through a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.tmcfunding.com/funds/vera-sue-schulte/8646/). There will be no public services held.
