Virginia Beach ~ Vincent R. Mardoc, age 88, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 2, 2019, in his home town of 20 years, Virginia Beach, VA.  Vincent was a loving husband, father and grandfather and was known for being a kind, humorous, thoughtful and generous man.  His family came first in his life.

Born in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York, on July 24, 1931, Vincent resided in Brooklyn for the next 23 years.  After graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, specializing in Nuclear Energy, from City College of New York, he married his loving wife of 54 years, Evie Pappas.  Together, they lived in Connecticut, where they raised their three children, Lynne (deceased in 2011), Peter and Philip.

A mechanical engineer by profession, Vincent worked for Goodyear, Combustion Engineering and Pratt & Whitney Aircraft over the course of his career.  As a young man, he designed a cooling system for an experimental naval nuclear reactor.   Later, he collaborated on the design of the jet engine air inlets for the F-111 fighter and other military jets.

Vincent’s hobbies included photography, painting, collecting coins and stamps, ping-pong, bowling and golf.  He was also a life-long, avid bridge-player, continuing to play in a local seniors’ club until only months prior to his passing.  Later in life, he traveled to Hawaii, which quickly became his favorite travel destination.

Vincent is survived by his sons Peter Mardoc (with wife, Cindy, and step-daughter, Charlee), Philip, and his children, Esther, Gabriel, Nathaniel (with wife Amber) and Zachary as well as Vincent’s sister, Patricia Donohue, and her daughters, Joyce Donohue Brennan and Linda Chavez, and their husbands and children.  The family plans to celebrate Vincent’s life privately.
