Virginia Anne Swallow (Beale) passed away on January 29, 2025 at the age of 89. Anne was a resilient and loving mother to her four children and a revered Grandmother “Grannie” to her eight grandchildren.
Anne’s true passion was spending time at the family beach cottage in Nags Head, reading, enjoying nature, and taking long beach walks collecting shells and beach glass. The beach walking trained her well to place in the top 3 of the Shamrock 8K Senior Division when she was in her 70’s.
Anne enjoyed being a Virginia Beach Master Gardener, devoting her time to help beautify the landscape around the Francis Land House and the Thoroughgood House.
Anne was a poet and we did not know it until now. She wrote poems about her children, grandchildren, and special moments in her life. Her poems bring back cherished memories.
Anne graduated from Norview High School in 1954 and received a BS in Biology/Sociology from Bluefield College/University of Richmond (Westhampton) in 1958. In 1959 she married James R. Swallow who served in the Navy for over 20 years and was a Vietnam Veteran. They moved around the country living in Texas, Cuba, California and then settled in Virginia Beach, VA in 1969. A school teacher in her early career, she became a full time Mother raising her 4 children, then a Real Estate Agent for her mid-life career.
Anne is predeceased by her Father Robert Oliver Beale, Sr., her Mother Phoebe Lavinia (Powell) Beale, and her Brothers Robert and Bernard Beale. She is survived by her Children: James with wife Tina, Denise with husband Philip, Jon with wife Danielle, Jeff with wife Wendy; and her Grandchildren: Lisa, Amy, Jared, Jaden, Phoebe, Hannah, Larik and DeAnna
