Virginia Hawley, 81, passed away in the presence of Our Lord on July 13 2023 in Yorktown.
Virginia was one of seven children and loved her family deeply. She was “Sissy” to her family, but to everyone else she introduced herself as Ginny with a bright, gap-toothed smile. She talked with anyone who felt like talking, trading life stories at restaurants, grocery stores, and lines at the post office.
A true southerner, Ginny enjoyed her meatloaf and biscuits with gravy and made excuses for avoiding vegetables. She launched from home in Hampton into the Marine Corps in her early 20s, then headed west. She never quite lost her Elly May accent even after spending forty years in California. Her friends and family describe her as “wonderful” and “one of a kind” and her wacky stories made us laugh to the point of tears.
Ginny was preceded in death by her mother and father Douglas and Gertrude Tosh, and her brothers and sisters Phyllis Scott, Randolph Tosh, and Lynda Sigler. She is survived by her son, John Hawley (Diane), her grandchildren Lauren and Elizabeth, her sisters Judi Burton, Jean Coleman, and Shelia Mucha, and nieces and nephews Jessica Tosh, Tommy Coleman III, Laurie Burt, and Curtis, Charlie, and Lynda V. Sigler. She will be remembered with love by friends both here and abroad. We thank the caregivers at York Nursing and Warwick Forest who looked after her with such kindness.
