Virginia McAlpin Severson of Hampton Virginia passed away peacefully at home on March 18, 2024, where she was a lifetime resident.

Virginia was born in Taylorsville, NC on January 15, 1950 to her parents, Dwight McAlpin Sr and Mary Pauline McAlpin.  Virginia graduated from Hampton High School in 1968.

She retired from the City of Newport News Waterworks after 27 years of dedicated service. After her retirement she opened a Craft Store in Phoebus with her mother and sister.

She enjoyed spending time with her late husband and her grandchildren. In recent days, she enjoyed reading and relaxing with her beagle, Buttercup.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Douglas Severson, her parents Dwight & Pauline McAlpin Sr., daughter Christine Blunt and sister Mary Ann Matthews.

Left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Regina Combs (Larry), Brother Dwight McAlpin JR (Debi), Sister Judy Seymore, Grandchildren Katherine Sheppard (Michael), Lauren Hill-Ignacio (Donte), Ryan Hill (Brianne), Chloe Blunt, Jacob Blunt, Justin Combs (Kati), and Samantha Lethco (Shaun), 13 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and sister and will be dearly missed.
