William Robert “Bob” Cartwright, born on April 4, 1942, in Elizabeth City, passed away peacefully on December 19, 2024, in Virginia Beach at the age of 82. His passing was due to natural causes, with his beloved family by his side.
Bob was the son of the late William Bernard Cartwright and Josephine Morgan Cartwright. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Frances Cartwright Jones.
He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University in 1965, the same year he began his long and dedicated career with Virginia Power, now known as Dominion Energy. Bob served the company tirelessly until his retirement in 1999, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and excellence.
Bob spent his formative years in Elizabeth City, where he was born and raised. Later in life, he made Palmyra, Virginia, his home.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Edith Waller Cartwright. Together, they built a loving family that includes their daughters, Jill Cartwright and Jodie Cartwright Brinn, and their son-in-law, Scott Brinn. Bob was a proud grandfather to Summer Brinn.
Bob is also survived by his sisters, Donna Cartwright Hayden and Robin Cartwright Sanders, along with her husband, Jim; brother, Randy Cartwright, and his sister-in-law, Benita, who were all a source of support and companionship throughout his life.
There will be a memorial to honor Bob’s life on Saturday, January 18th, from 1pm to 4pm at Marriott at Short Pump, 4240 Dominion Blvd., Glen Allen, VA 23060. Services are informal, come and go as you please. There will be food provided by the family.
