Chesapeake – Willard “Will” K. King, 75, passed away December 24, 2012 at his home. Born in Tarboro, NC, he was the son of the late Wade K. and Nancy “Teeny” King. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ernest Alton King.
Will graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School, Portsmouth, Class of 1956. He retired from Smith Douglas, division of Borden Chemical and from Newport News Shipbuilding, division of Huntington Ingalls.
This quiet, Southern gentleman led a busy and interesting life serving his Lord as husband and father. Will also served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher at Churchland Baptist Church; and later as an usher, Sunday school teacher, and committee member at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. He served in the Army National Guard, with the American Red Cross, Western Branch C.E.R.T., Local Emergency Planning Committee of Chesapeake, and the Virginia Conference UMC Disaster Response Committee.
Will is survived by his wife of 50 years, Paula King; his daughter, Deb Powell and her husband Rudy of Chesapeake; his sister, Kathleen “Kitty” Kent of Suffolk; a favorite brother-in-law, Bud Collins and his wife Carrie of Irvington , AL; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Aldersgate UMC. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Southeastern Food Bank of Virginia. Cremation Society of Virginia is handling the arrangements.
