Carin, Betsy and Family, I’m so sorry for your loss of your beloved father and grandfather. Bill was always such a friendly guy whenever I had the pleasure of seeing him on his Denver visits! One blessing is that he and Connie are now reunited and together for all of eternity. May they rest peacefully together. Please accept my deepest condolences in your losses. Love, Terry

Our sympathy goes out to you, Betsy and Carin, and to all of your family. Connie and Bill were good friends with whom we enjoyed lots of great dinner nights! Bill was so supportive of Connie's mentoring job during her retirement and was a caring and loving husband during her illness. He will be missed!

What a whirlwind life has been over the last 50 days. NEVER would we have seen this coming. We were so glad and thankful to get to spend a week with you in March. Who would have known what was to come days later? We rest easy knowing you are with Mom and Maura. We love you and miss you. P.S. A few memories for the books- Fort Knox, 5 inches, Code Brown, Aw Shit, Frostys, the Jeep, political views, opinions, anything with sugar, and the porpoise. The list could go on.

We are sorry to have learned about Bill's passing. We have fond memories of Bill and Connie during our earlier years through our friendship with Dan and Carolyn Dudley. Bill always had an interesting story to tell which was helped by his great sense of humor. We moved to Texas in 1974 but have kept in touch with the Va Beach folks through Dan and Carolyn. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all. May your fondest memories sustain you how and forever.
Peace of mind is a call away. We’re here when you need us most.

Bill was such a very special person! He was devoted to Connie, his family & friends; loved duck decoys, waterfowl museums & festivals and lighthouses! We spent many wonderful times together at home, as well as on the Outer Banks and Eastern Shore. He had such a great sense of humor and loved life! He will be missed by all who knew him and forever remembered in our hearts.

Bill and Connie will both always be in my memory for the kindness they extended to me and my daughter in Sept.,1985. Everyone was readying for hurricane Gloria. The night before my husband had called and asked for a divorce. The next day I saw Connie at school but because of my devastation, I had to leave school before the day's end and went home. Later that day, Connie arrived on my doorstep and said,"You and Bridgette are coming to our house tonight." Connie and Bill treated us like royalty as we dealt with our heartbreak and weathered the hurricane. I remember how Bill was funny and uplifting at breakfast the following morning. For that small time of the morning, I could focus on other thoughts. I will never forget Connie and Bill's genuine empathy and love. They were such beautiful people. My sympathies to your family.

To Carin,Betsy and family of Bill....I heard about your dad yesterday from a teacher friend of your moms and was so very saddened by the loss of your dad....I emailed him in early March to remind him about the Waterfowl Show in Whitestone VA the weekend after St Patrick's Day...we went a few years ago{ he loved it and the drive there}.He's been on my mind all week and almost emailed him this week. He was of the nicest persons I've ever met and he and your mom became wonderful friends later in life visiting me in Maine on their way to Nova Scotia...I am truly devastated by this news and think of your mom constantly and now will think of them together....Please please except my very deepest sympathy.....he was the Best. Betsy and Carin my sincere sympathy to you both. Bill was such a kind, gentle person who made Connie’s friends his own. We were so honored when Connie and Bill asked Bob to conduct their marriage vows renewal. Your parents were such wonderful people who made everyone feel special. We were so fortunate to have them as friends.

I remember telling Bill how much I loved his plants in his yard. He had a green thumb. He planted all his flowers and his pot arrangements were phenomenal. I remember Bill and Connie renewing their marriage vows at Rockefeller’s with family and friends. What a wonderful celebration! I remember Bill letting us use his car to go to Atlantic Beach and someone crashes into it as In the parking lot. Connie was worried about telling Bill but he took it well. I remember when Bill would come downstairs to eat dessert with the Ya-Yas when we had bridge. He loved to share his duck collection and lighthouses. Bill was a kind, caring, and supportive husband and he will be missed . Love and strength to Betsy and Carin and family.

So very sorry for your loss he will be missed. One little short story, we wanted to put some rocks in a new garden we were doing on the side of our driveway, your Dad was the Carrollton Rep for the ARC in West Neck so he came down to take a look at what we were doing and making sure we weren't going to fill that whole side in with rocks. He said he never saw that before so we told him where to go look, needless to say Bill Hess did not like rocks! We all laughed and when it was done he drove by and stopped and then decided he liked the rocks! He will be missed, and every time we look at those rocks we will think of him.
