William “Elton” Lafoon passed away on January 10, 2024. His wife, Frances, followed him to heaven six days later on January 16, 2024. They were both 91 years old.
Elton and Frances grew up on adjoining tobacco farms in Brunswick County, VA and married on October 21, 1950 (73 years). After living “in the country,” Elton’s brief stint at Newport News Shipbuilding and Army service during the Korean War, they made Redheart Drive in Hampton their home for 65 years.
Elton worked for Amoco Oil Refinery for thirty-eight years, retiring in 1994 as their Training Coordinator. During retirement he volunteered at Meals on Wheels, Habitat for Humanity, Hampton Recycling Program, York County Little League/school baseball, Mission Day Star, and as a Builder at Liberty Baptist Church where he also served as an usher.
Frances supported Elton during his many years of shift work at the refinery and made a career out of taking care of her home and family. She was a great cook and always made sure everyone had enough to eat. She constantly kept her family bathed in prayer.
Their most coveted roles were as “Bambi and P-A” to their three grandsons, loving and supporting them unconditionally and having a major presence in their lives.
Left to cherish their memory is daughter, Liz Bryant (Steve), grandsons, Travis Bryant (Jenna), Nick Bryant (Khaki), and Clift Bryant, great-grandchildren Johanna Frazier, Elton Bryant and Calvin Bryant, along with many loving family members.
A celebration of life service will be held at 11:30 am on Saturday, March 9th at Liberty Live Church Chapel located at 1021 Big Bethel Road in Hampton. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. A reception will follow the service at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the York County Food Closet, 300 Ella Taylor Road, Yorktown, VA 23692.
