William L. Wathen
Virginia Beach – On Sunday, 13 March 2016 the Angels took William Wathen to be with the Heavenly Father and his beloved Loretta.
At age 87, Will was a long time resident of Virginia Beach. He enjoyed gardening and following his favorite sports teams, the Baltimore Orioles and the Duke Blue Devils. His true joys in life were spending time with his family, serving on the Coast Guard’s Chief Warrant Officers Association, and Thursday lunch with all of his Coast Guard buddies at Pelosi’s.
Will was an Engineer in the Coast Guard and he could repair, rebuild, or recondition nearly anything. Couple that with his giving heart, and he was known by all for always being there with a helping hand. He is survived by his sister Patricia Clason, daughter Beverly Powles and husband Pete, grandson Casey Powles, granddaughter Joanna Dann and husband Nathan, his adored great grandson Johnathan, and his closest companion in his last days, his chocolate lab Wiley, as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families.
A special thank you to Interim Hospice and the staff of The Waterford Senior Living Community for their loving care and never ending compassion in attending to Will’s needs.
A memorial service will be held at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 1968 Sandbridge Rd., Va Bch on Monday, March 21, 2016 at 10:30am.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church building fund.
