William “Bill” Rowe Mathes passed away Friday, October 23, 2009. Born January 29, 1927 in Greeneville, TN. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Becky Mathes and is survived by his five children and their families; David W. Mathes, Nancy M. Newsom, Daniel R. Mathes, Sally A. Pepperman and Katie M. Mathes, 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Bill retired as a Lieutenant Colonel after 21 years in the U.S. Army where he was a decorated pilot and instructor in addition to being a veteran of WWII, Korean and Vietnam wars.
Military Honors will be conducted privately in Tennessee.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to Heartland Foundation Hospice in Virginia Beach, VA. Cremation Society of Virginia is assisting the family.
