Bill Quinn, 70, passed away Wednesday, 4/24/24 with family, friends and his beloved Golden Retriever Serbet at his side in the place he loved for over 50 years in Portsmouth VA. Born in Syracuse, N.Y. 7/12/53 to Annie Merle Roberts (Bobbie) Quinn and Will Matt Quinn. He was a 1972 graduate of Churchland H.S. in Portsmouth VA and received his bachelor’s degree in 1976 from Miami University (Communications).
Bill’s legacy is in what he created through his brilliant photography and videography for others to see, remember, learn and enjoy, both personally and professionally in Florida and Eastern Virginia. He was a videographer and producer for WTKR Television and VA Marine Science Museum, and other organizations, especially historical and military, on land and undersea. He taught photography at Tidewater Community College. In retirement he volunteered in many local organizations, was devoted to family & friends and to making his neighborhood in the Churchland community a better place. Until cancer precluded giving, he was a dedicated Red Cross platelet donor giving over 500 lifetime donations and over 565 units!
Bill was a devoted advocate for the environment and all creatures of land and water. He was an oyster gardener, raising oysters for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and volunteering with the Elizabeth River Project. He was an avid supporter of SEVAGRREAT, the organization from whom he adopted Serbet. He also loved gardening, kayaking and nature photography particularly at dawn and dusk. Bill always kept his sense of humor – often surprising (or confusing) people with his quick and quirky wit.
Bill was predeceased by his parents, his brother D. Michael (Mike) Quinn and his sister Carol (Quinn) Pfeiffer. He is survived by sister (in-law) Cathy (Marando) Quinn, nephews: Charles Pfeiffer, Michael Quinn and William Pfeiffer, great-niece Lily Ann Quinn as well as many cousins. His caring friends & neighbors became his village and surrounded him with love & support during his final weeks. His sense of humor never left him.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Information will be available via Creation Society of Virginia website https://vacremationsociety.com/obituary/william-robert-quinn/
