Mr. Bobbitt was born 23 December 1921 in Norfolk, Virginia and died on 28 August 2010 in Norfolk, Virginia.
Dad retired in August 1978 after 38 years of Federal Civil Service, which included 3 years in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He began his Civil Service career on September 9, 1940 as a grade 1 Clerk at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. He received a number of promotions, reaching the grade of GS-14, Supervisory Systems Analyst in April 1964. Dad served in the Naval Shipyard, the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre as a Chief Yeoman in the Navy, the Norfolk Naval Supply Center, the Navy Regional Accounting Center, the Defense General Supply Agency, Richmond, Va. and finally as the Senior Civilian in the Navy Fleet Assistance Group Atlantic from April 1964 until his retirement in August 1978.
During the 38 years, Dad received seven Sustained Superior Accomplishment Awards, a Meritorius Service Award and the Navy Superior Civilian Service Award. He was a Charter member and President of two Toastmaster Clubs; one in Norfolk and one in Richmond. After retirement, he also served as President of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 1601 in Virginia Beach, Va. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge AF&AM, Ocean View for more than 50 years.
Dad accomplished many things in his full life. His legacy to his family is the generosity and love that was always present and the honesty and integrity that he brought to everything he did. Dad is dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Bobbitt is survived by his wife of 68 years, Edith B. Bobbitt, his daughter, Nancy Mustin, son-in-law, James Mustin, and grandson, David Jeffreys.
