He was predeceased by his parents, Wilson Thomas Sawyer, Sr, Jessie Hodgins Sawyer and his brother John Jack Hodgins Sawyer.
He was an army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Tom was active for many years in the timber business, President of Advanced Wood Products company as well as a Certified Public Accountant. He was a life member of the Royal Navy Patrol Service and represented that organization at memorial services in Ocracoke, North Carolina and Virginia Beach. He was a well known local historian, writing articles for the Virginian Pilot.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Katharine Palmer Sawyer; a son, Wilson Thomas Sawyer, Ill; daughter, Deborah Josephine Morris James; grandson, Thomas Paul Mikrut Ill and granddaughter, Sandra Lyn Mikrut.
The family would like to thank the staffs at Bay Point Rehabilitation Convalescent center and Heartland Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
Private funeral service will be held at Galilee Episcopal Church in St. Andrews Chapel. Interment will follow at the Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery.
