Winston Adair Smith, 79, of Chesapeake, ascended on December 22, 2023. Winston personified integrity and lived by his adage, “Your word is your worth.” Winston met Jackie Sutton when he was 19 years old, and he knew instantly that she would be with him for the rest of his life. They were engaged within 2 months and have been married for 59 years. Winston and Jackie have two daughters, Derinda (Ray) and Melissa (Steve), grandchildren (Cassidy Adair, Reece “Sutton”, Jonathan Winston, Brittany Adair, George Ray, and Melissa Rae) and great grandchildren.
Winston was the Director of Safety, Security, and Workman’s Compensation at Norshipco; Chairman of the Shipbuilders Council of America; and served his community as both a Chesapeake and a Virginia State Police Officer. He was past Worshipful Master of the South Norfolk Masonic Lodge and a Gold Card recipient. Winston enjoyed automobiles, Lionel electric trains, learning about World War II, sharing his police stories, and driving endlessly to nowhere.
A celebration of Winston’s life will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 5548 Sajo Farm Road, Virginia Beach.
