Virginia Beach – Y.J. “Ivan” Richard, 89, passed away on October 13, 2017 surrounded by his family at his home in Virginia Beach, VA.
Ivan joined the United Stated Navy at age 17 and proudly served our nation for more than 22 years. His shipmates at the CPO Club Little Creek were his second family and he deeply valued their comradery. He was an avid golfer and very proud of his 5 holes in one. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and rooting for his New England Patriots.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Lena. He is survived by his son Donald, daughter Carol Tietjen and husband John, daughter Kathy van Daalen and husband Jon, son Bob and wife Laurie, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
A committal service will be held on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 11:00 at the Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery located at 5310 Milners Rd, Suffolk, VA.
